The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), during the week
announced the commencement of Port Harcourt refinery, stressing that its
commencement will cushion the effect of fuel scarcity.
The Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs, NNPC, Garba Deen
Muhammed disclosed that the Port Harcourt refinery has the capacity to refine
about 210,000 barrels of crude oil per day, which is tantamount to five million
litres of petrol per day but admitted that the refinery was not yet producing at
full capacity.
This is coming at the heels of the lingering fuel scarcity that is currently ravaging the country with long queues at several filling stations.
Muhammed said the current production level remained at three to five million litres daily. Resumption of the refinery would help reduce the effect of petrol scarcity, especially in the South east and South south of the country.
