POLICE ARRESTED SUSPECTED ARMED ROBBERS FOR KILING A DISPATCH RIDER

Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have arrested three suspected armed robbers, who shot and killed a dispatch rider, who had gone to deliver smartphones to them.
It was gathered that the armed robbers had ordered for smartphones from an unnamed company and had waited at their hideout for the firm to send the items across through a courier.
The dispatch rider, who had gone to deliver the items on Saturday, was unmindful of the fact that the receivers of the goods were armed robbers.

A source told our correspondent that on getting to his destination, the yet to be identified dispatcher rider was thoroughly beaten and killed with a gun.
It was learnt that the body of the courier was thrown into a soak-away pit.
Confirming the incident in a telephone interview, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Nnamdi Omoni, said a group of policemen, who were on patrol arrested three hoodlums, including a girlfriend to one of them.
“I can confirm the incident. What happened was that these armed robbers ordered for smartphones from a certain courier company in Rivers State.
“Then the company sent the phones through a dispatch rider. On getting there, the hoodlums beat up the dispatch rider and later shot him and he died inside their flat.
“After killing him, they (hoodlums) took the corpse to a place, opened a soak-away pit and threw the victim’s body inside there. Our men, who were on patrol and acting on credible intelligence, arrested two of them and they showed us where they hid the corpse.
“The incident happened on Saturday on Location Road in Ada George, Port Harcourt. Three persons were arrested, including a girlfriend to one of the suspected armed robbers,” he stated.
Omoni, however, said that investigation was ongoing with a view to arresting other members of the armed robbery gang.

16 YEAR OLD NIGERIAN BECOMES THE FIRST BLACK TO BUILD A NUCLEAR FUSOR

Nigerian teenager, Steven Udotong, has invented a nuclear energy fusor, making him the first black student to attain such feat.

A fusor is a device that uses an electric field to heat ions to suitable condition for nuclear fusion.The machine generates an electric potential difference between two metal cages inside a vacuum.

Udotong, a 16-year-old high school junior in Southern New Jersey, in an interview on blavity.com, expressed the hope that his invention would inspire a cleaner, more environmentally-friendly future for all.

To achieve the feat, Udotong created a GoFundMe page to raise 1,500 dollars for supplies, a goal he achieved in just one month.

He said “I grew curious after we flew by the topic of nuclear energy in my chemistry class last year. I decided to do more research and I soon learned that I could actually make a nuclear fusor.

“That sparked my interest. I want people to know that there are alternate methods for obtaining power and energy.

“I want to examine more clean energy products and stop the fear of the word “nuclear,” Steven shared in an interview on The Well, Jopwell’s Digital Magazine, with his older brother, Emmanuel, a computer science student at Princeton University. Nuclear energy is a lot safer than people think,” he added.

This past summer, Steven was accepted into Yale Young Global Scholar Programme, which allowed him to pursue the engineering workshop at the Singapore campus.

He was one of three students from New Jersey to attend the workshop. He said that he realised he could be the first black student to build a nuclear reactor.

He added that “I was motivated because I knew that there were many other ways for minorities to pursue success. Sports and music were not the only avenues for us.

“There’s room for us. There’s a need for us to participate in academia, business, art, law, medicine, and yes, nuclear energy. I hope this project will become an example of academic excellence as vehicle of accomplishment for black students.”

The first part of Udotong’s invention was done but he still needed to raise money to complete it.

He added that when he was done with that, he planned to enter it in science fairs and competitions for a chance to pursue scholarship opportunities.

His ultimate goal, he said, was to start a conversation on state and federal level, about more serious action toward adopting alternative energy sources.

NIGERIAN MAN FATHERS A CHILD AFTER UNDERGOING PENIS TRANSPLANT.

In 2009, Muhammad Sirajo Musa on his way to the prayer ground during one of eid filtri celebration and was involved in an accident in which his penis was affected. He was first treated at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Zaria before he was referred to an Egyptian hospital where a new penis was developed for him.
Musa's wife was delivered of a baby girl after he underwent a penis transplant in Egypt.

At the first surgery, the Egyptian doctors molded the manhood by extracting muscles from Musa’s thigh and arm. The manhood was planted beneath the position of the severed penis and was nursed for nine months before it was removed and planted in the original position.

Nigerians and Zaria residents didn't see the possibility of him fathering a child. The functionality of Musa’s manhood was evident when his wife was seen to have conceived. Salamatu Maharazu, Musa’s wife, gave birth to a bouncing baby girl just last week to everyone's disbelief.
The excitement on Musa’s face was infectious when newsmen visited him at his family house. He said; “I give Allah all the glory. He was the one that saw me through the trauma of losing my manhood. As you can see, here is my 8-day-old baby. .

I have to also express my appreciation to the emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Shehu Idris, because he was the one that sponsored my treatment.”
Malama Salamatu said patience and believe in the powers of Allah were the factors that kept the family together during their trying time. She added; “I am happy to say that my husband is back to life and this baby is the testimony. Praise is due to Allah.”

29 YEAR OLD REMILEKUN OREFUNWA EMERGES LASU'S BEST IN THE 2015/2016 CONVOCATION.

Remilekun Orefunwa emerges last best graduating student during the convocation of the 2015/2016 graduates of the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, that was held on Wednesday.
The 29 year old expectant mother is a graduate of Accounting Education. She graduated with a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) OF 4.74 among 25 other first class graduates. During her valedictory speech, she narrated how she failed on seven different occasion seeking university admission, before finally been gaining admission in 2012.

These were Remilekun words:

“I almost gave up after writing the UTME for seven years in a bid to gain admission into the university without success. I also applied to the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, three times without success. But with encouragement from my dad and elder sister, I eventually gained admission to LASU in 2012 to study Accounting Education.My sister kept encouraging me and I started a professional career at the Institute of Chartered Accountant of Nigeria during the long wait for admission. I qualified as an Associate Chartered Accountant in 2010. My advice to others is that they should never give up in the face of daunting challenges,” .

PLATEAU STATE COMMISSIONER DIED WHILE JOGGING WITH THE GOVERNOR.

Plateau State received a shock today as the commissioner for Housing and Urban development slumped and died while jogging alongside the Governor at the Stadium in Jos. The photo is that of the aforementioned commissioner, Samuel Galadima, who slumped and died on Wednesday morning while jogging along with Governor Simon Lalong, at the Rwang Pam Stadium in Jos.

The Director of Press Affairs, Emmanuel Nanle, confirmed the tragedy and said; “the commissioner slumped while jogging and was rushed to the Plateau Specialist Hospital, where he died.”

Nanle said that the official was gasping for breath by the time he arrived the hospital. “Doctors tried to stabilise him but could not. We have lost him,” he said.

Before the death of Samuel Galadinma, the state has recorded series of death in few weeks. A third top official in Plateau State governor, Simon Laong‘s administration has died on Wednesday.

This is coming 6 days after Pius Dashe, the Chief Administration Officer, Plateau State Government House, Jos died after a brief illness.

On February 19, 2017, Governor Lalong’s Deputy Chief of Staff, Yusuf Gambo Hawaja died in the car while being taken to the hospital after he collapsed at home.

HAVARD DENIES DINO MELAYE (CERTIFICATE SCANDAL)

Harvard University in Boston, United States, on Tuesday refuted a claim by Senator Dino Melaye that he was not at any time educated at the prestigious Ivy League school, the Registrar’s Office immediately dismissing the suggestion as soon as an official cross-checked it.
Dino Melaiye is a Nigerian, Politician, Lawmaker and member of the 8th National Assembly, representing Kogi West.
Senator’s posturing is also reflected on his LinkedIn account and has been previously showcased stated in (an interview with the media)(in media interviews).

The Harvard Kennedy School of Educational Leadership confirmed that Dino Melaye presented himself in November 2016 only for a one-week seminar in leadership. Asked if that qualifies as academic achievement, the respondent said "No," adding that the seminar also doesn't qualify anyone to become a Harvard alumnus.

Following a motion by Senator Ali Ndume asking the Senate’s Ethics and Privileges Committee to investigate allegations that Melaye didn't properly graduate from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) in Zaria, Nigeria, Melaye had bragged that he has at least eight postgraduate degrees.

Mr. Melaye has been caught in a major certificate scandal in which Examination Officers at the Department of Geography, ABU, where Melaye took undergraduate classes, confirmed that he did not graduate from the institution. They went further to say that the documents he presented to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) were manipulated between Melaye and his then Head of Department, Prof. David Ogbonna.

The Examination Officers pointed out that Mr. Melaye was registered in the university as "Daniel Jonah O. Melaye," a name they said was neither in the graduation brochure of ABU when his set graduated, nor found in any other graduation document. In particular, the Exam officers pointed to how during his final year, the HOD added 2 course units to boost Melaye's CGPA.

Mr. Melaye had reportedly bribed university officials to produce fake transcripts, on the basis of which he attended a program at the University of Jos, the University of Abuja, and currently at ABU. Several of Melaye's classmates and comrades also disputed his claim that he was a Students' Union Government President at ABU, at best, they stated Melaye was a president of the National Association of Geography Students (NAGS) from where he was impeached for fraud.

Another claim that the Senator studied at the London School of Economics could not be verified as of the time of going to press.

WOMAN FINED £580 FOR LITTERING THE STREET WITH CIGARETTE

Ms Jennifer Bell, a mother of 4 was fined £580 for littering the street with a stick of cigarette. She initially denied throwing the cigarette off the window of her car.

Bell was apparently pictured throwing the butt from her window onto the floor of a McDonald’s car park. She denied littering and failed to refuse an initial fine of £75 which was sent to her home in Hull. She reiterated that she always gets her children to pick up after themselves if they drop rubbish in the street.

She ended up being summoned to court but she didn’t attend so was found guilty and sentenced in her absence.

Ms Bell narrated: ‘My best friend was in the car next to me. On the photos I had a cup of tea in my right hand and it sounds stupid but I smoke with my right hand and I had a cup of tea in my right hand too according to that photo.

‘I rang the council up and asked them if they had more proof. They said that they couldn’t get CCTV so I just left it out on the side then I got the court letters through. I was going to go but in the end I just didn’t turn up.
She added: ‘I just think it’s ridiculous and I think the council are after any money that they can get.’
Councillor Martin Mancey, head of environmental services, said: ‘Fly-tipping is a criminal offence, and we will not tolerate it. We are sick and tired of people who think they can just dump their waste anywhere in our city. It’s hazardous to people, animals and the environment.’

NINE (9) WOMEN DIED FROM SILICONE IMPLANT CANCER

The Food and Drug Administration opened up that 350 women had been diagnosed of a cancer related disease [anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL)] owing to silicone breast. Out of the 350 women, 9 has been confirmed dead. ALCL cancer was initially suggested by the World Health Organization six years ago.
The evidence is enough for regulators to acknowledge a clear link between silicone breast implants and the blood cancer.

The FDA said: ‘All of the information to date suggests that women with breast implants have a very low but increased risk of developing ALCL compared to women who do not have breast implants
‘Most cases of breast implant-associated ALCL are treated by removal of the implant and the capsule surrounding the implant and some cases have been treated by chemotherapy and radiation.
The statement added: ‘As of February 1, 2017, the FDA has received a total of 359 medical device reports of breast-implant-associated ALCL, including nine deaths,’ it said.
‘Breast implants approved in the U.S. can be filled with either saline or with silicone gel. They come in different sizes and shapes and have either smooth or textured surfaces (shells).
‘There are 231 reports that included information on the implant surface. Of these, 203 were reported to be textured implants and 28 reported to be smooth implants.’

20 PERSONS DIED IN GHANA'S KINTAMPO WATERFALL

Ghana Fire Service on Monday said no fewer than 20 people were killed by a falling tree while swimming at a popular waterfall spot in southern Ghana.
Students from Wenchi Methodist Senior High School and the University of Energy and Natural Resources were on an excursion at the Kintampo Waterfalls in Brong Ahafo region on Sunday when the tragic incident occurred.

Reports say about 18 of the fatalities are students.
A further 20 people were being treated in hospital, Desmond Owusu Boampong, a local police commander, told newsmen.
Kumi Ada from the fire service said the large tree was believed to have been brought down by strong winds.
Ghana’s president Nana Akufo-Addo on Monday tweeted his condolences to the families of the victims.
“I have learnt with great sadness, the unfortunate incident that occurred at Kintampo Waterfalls yesterday. My deepest condolences to the families of all those affected by this unfortunate and tragic incident,”

A PLANE CRASHED IN SUDAN WITH 45 MEMBERS ON BOARD

A plane with 45 passengers on board was said to have crashed in South Sudan. The South Supreme Airliner burst into flames after crash landing at the Wau Airport.

A South Supreme Airlines plane crashed at South Sudan’s Wau airport with 45 passengers on board. Witnesses said the pilot had overshot the runway.

Fire engines rushed to the plane when it crash-landed and started to burn. The number of casualties is unclear as officials confirmed 14 of the 45 on board were injured.

State Information Minister, Bona Gaudensio said: “Right now we have the ambulance which has just come out from the airport and we have received 14 patients being rushed to hospital in stable condition.”

A MEDICAL DOCTOR DROWNED HIMSELF IN LAGOS LAGOON

A man who was alleged to be a medical doctor was reported to have taken his own life by jumping into the Lagos lagoon at the Third Mainland Bridge, Nigeria.

The report said that the alleged medical doctor was driven to the spot in his Nissan SUV. He stopped the driver with the excuse that he wanted to check something on the body of the car, only for him to jump into the lagoon.

"The driver of the SUV was quoted as saying that the man asked him to stop, came out of the vehicle and jumped into the Lagoon on Third Mainland Bridge," the report said adding that the incident occurred between Adekunle and Adeniji end of the bridge.

The driver and the SUV have been taken to the police station while officials of the Lagos state Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and security officers are currently at the scene to retrieve the body of the victim.
